Assistant หรือว่า Assistance – Message of the Day – 12 August 2009
ในหนังสือพิมพ์ ฉบับหนึ่ง เป็น Free Copy ฉบับแทรกของหนังสือพิมพ์รายวัน (Daily Newspaper) แต่ผู้เขียนจะไม่ขอเอ่ยชื่อเขา เพราะเป็นเรื่องเจ้าของผู้นำโฆษณามาลงในหน้า Jobs 14 ประจำวันจันทร์ที่ 20 July 2009 เขาลงประกาศหาผู้สมัครในตำแหน่ง ดังข้อความข้างล่างนี้ :-
Assistance Human Resource Manager พร้อมระบุคุณวุฒิ หรือคุณสมบัติผู้มีสิทธิ์สมัครว่า
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Political Science, Business Administration, Human Resource Management or related.
- Minimum
of 3 years of progressive, generalist HR related positions that
includes start up with a medium to large manufacturing corporation.
- Experience in setting up HR programs compliant with Thai Labor requirements.
- Must have at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity and demonstrate proficiency in computer utilization.
- Excellent in English communication skills, both written and spoken.
ที่จะพูดถึงเฉพาะตรงตำแหน่ง ส่วนคุณสมบัตินำมาลงไว้เพื่อดูประกอบเจตนาของผู้ลงประกาศรับสมัครว่า ต้องการจะรับตำแหน่งอะไรแน่ เพราะอ่านแต่ละหัวข้อแล้วงง จึงไม่พูดถึงตรงนั้น เพราะต้องการให้เห็นเฉพาะ ความแตกต่างของ Assistant กับ Assistance

Dictionary of Names, Positions, Occupations in English, and Common Phrases : หนังสือประมวลคำศัพท์ที่หายากเกี่ยวกับ ชื่อ ตำแหน่ง อาชีพในภาษาอังกฤษ และวลีที่ใช้งานกันทั่วไป
ที่นีเรามาพูดกันถึงหัวข้อที่จั่วหัวเรื่องเอาไว้ คือ Assistance Human Resource Manager
จากที่ยกตัวอย่างมานั้นส่วนมากจะใช้คำว่า Assistant ซึ่งคำนี้เป็นทั้งคำนาม และคุณศัพท์ หมายถึง ผู้ช่วย และเกี่ยวกับผู้ช่วย (เป็นส่วนใหญ่) ถ้าคำนี้ขึ้นต้นว่า

Assistance Human Resource Manager จึงไม่ใช่ ผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการฝ่ายทรัพยากรมนุษย์ ดังกล่าว จึงน่าจะแปลว่า ผู้จัดการฝ่ายทรัพยายากรมนุษย์ด้านความช่วยเหลือ หรือ ฝ่ายทรัพยากรบุคคลเกี่ยวกับความช่วยเหลือ จึงไม่ใช่การเปิดรับตำแหน่งผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการฝ่ายทรัพยากรบุคคลแน่เลย
ตรงนี้แม้ตรงเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับคุณวุฒิจะกระเดียดไปในทำนองว่าต้องการ ผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการฝ่ายทรัพยากรบุคคล
อนึ่งคำว่า Human resources :- ที่แปลว่า ทรัพยากรมนุษย์ ทรัพยากรบุคคล สังเกตว่าคำว่า resources จะเติม s ด้วยเสมอ
ถ้าเป็น Personnel Department :-ฝ่ายบุคคล และ ฝ่ายบุคลากร
จึงเป็นการชี้ให้เห็นว่า การใช้คำผิดประเภท หรือผิดชนิดของคำจะทำให้ความหมายเปลี่ยนไป คนละอย่างเลย
ทำนองเดียวกันกับชื่อหนังสือเล่มนี้
Dictionary of Names, Positions, Occupations in English, and Common Phrases ตรงที่ว่า Names, Positions, Occupations in English : ซึ่งหมายถึง ชื่อ ตำแหน่ง อาชีพในภาษาอังกฤษ กับ English Names, Positions, Occupations จะแปลว่า ชื่อ ตำแหน่ง อาชีพของคนหรือชาวอังกฤษไป
ถ้าเป็น English names : จึงหมายถึง ชื่อของคน / ชาวอังกฤษ เช่น มร. Brown, Tony, Edward, John เป็นต้น อะไรทำนองนั้น
แต่ถ้า Names in English แล้วจะหมายถึงว่า ถ้า ชื่อ ที่คนไทยเรียกกันว่า ครู อาจารย์ ในภาษาอังกฤษ / เป็นภาษาอังกฤษ เขาเรียกกันว่าอย่างไร เช่นว่า teacher : ซึ่งเราเรียกว่า ครู หรือ lecturer : เราเรียกว่า อาจารย์ เป็นต้น หรือ นายกรัฐมนตรี ในภาษาอังกฤษ เขาเรียกว่าอะไร อย่างนี้เป็นต้น
